I Ching: The Book Of Changes is one of the most ancient philosophical writings available today. Its origin dates back nearly 5000 years to the great Taoist sage, Fu Shi. The I Ching is one of the first efforts of the human mind to place itself within the universe. It has exerted a living influence in China for thousands of years, and interest in it has been spreading in the West. First set down in the dawn of history as a book of oracles, the Book of Changes deepened in meaning when ethical values were attached to the oracular pronouncements; it became also known as the Book of Wisdom, eventually one of the Five Classics of Confucianism, and provided a common source for both Confucianist and Taoist philosophy. The I Ching was developed because spiritual leaders of the time began to notice mankind’s spiritual devolution. As a result of this separation between man and their spiritual development, the I Ching sought to restore harmony, balance in society, and in day-to-day life. It is fascinating and enlightening to learn how the simple energy language, used by the I Ching, can represent all expressions of Qi, phenomena of the universe, and of all human affairs.
The importance of the I Ching is to give guidance in any given situation. Sometimes we react to something to prematurely or go by our gut instinct when making decision and choices in our lives, these choices may affect us a single day or a whole lifetime. The I Ching isn't used to tell one's fortune, but rather to be used as a tool to help us act accordingly to any circumstance in order to maintain balance and harmony in our life.
